Born in 1994, Prescot, Liverpool, Thomas Atherton is a British independent filmmaker. Having started an interest in acting at the age of 14 and being involved in numerous plays throughout the years, Thomas decided that he wanted to become more involved with the creative and technical side of the media. Thus after leaving school went to study Media Production at St Helens college and has become more interested in making films and writing scripts since leaving college. Thomas is now currently studying (BA Hons) Media Production at the University of Lincoln.
Thomas’ strengths lie mostly in cinematography, camera operating and directing, but his biggest strength is his creativity; coming up with different ideas and styles for film ideas. Thomas’ filming inspiration comes from many films and directors, as Atherton is a big film buff mostly interested in the genres of horror, gangster, fantasy, action, and psychological film. He also writes scripts and does the occasional editing as well as being interested in radio. Atherton is also a presenter for The Night Light show on Brayford Radio.
Thomas’ hobbies and interests are acting, watching films, playing games, playing his bass, dancing, creating new shorts, sketches and listening to music; his music taste is widely ranged as far as the 80’s. Though Thomas does listen to a lot of 80’s music, he does listen to modern music, but his most loved band and artist of all time is The Smiths band and solo artists Morrissey.
Thomas' plans, after university, to get a job within the media industry as a cinematographer, camera operator or a runner. He hopes to work his way up to directing films and hopefully one day his own.
